Rachel Wesley

BA (Hons), PG (Dip), MBACP, EMDR UK

Psychological Therapist and HR Consultant

My first career was in financial and professional services sectors within HR/learning and development where I was employed as HR Operations and Development Director for a large professional services firm.  For the last 16 years I have developed my career into therapy and mental health services having worked as a mental health practitioner, primary care counsellor and counselling team leader in the NHS.  In addition to being a psychotherapist, I also provide consultancy, coaching and L&D to organisations in the professional services, financial, charity, education and care sectors nationwide.  My client base includes a wide variety of clients across both private and public sectors (DEFRA, emotional behavioural difficulty units within Lancashire Education Authority, Chartered Accountants Benevolent Society, Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors, Lancashire Social Services, Penninecare NHS Foundation Trust, Onepoint Psychological Services, Lancashire Care, Alder Hey Hospital and the Police Federation).

I have 14 years experience as a psychological therapist within the NHS in both primary and secondary mental health services.  Most recently, I worked for 4 years in a retained capacity for Merseycare NHS Foundation Trust as a psychological trauma specialist and trainer in mental health and mindfulness within the Health & Wellbeing service.  I work as a psychotherapist and mental health assessor specialising in trauma including work for the Manchester  Resilience Hub following the Arena bombing.

I have combined NHS work with private practice for 9 years and receive regular referrals from EAPs (CIC, PamAssist, Priory Group, Oasis Human Relations), solicitors and insurers relating traumatic events where I use Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing models. I work with adults, adolescents (from age 11 upwards) and families. I am also a retained psychotherapist for the MS Society and have a special interest in working with chronic ill health/pain and disability. This clinical practice is balanced with delivering learning and development solutions as outlined below.

I am an experienced workplace mediator and focus on delivering effective resolutions to grievance issues and working alongside HR teams/line managers to minimise organisational risk.  With the benefit of a number of years of operational HR experience in managing organisational change issues, clients often find pragmatic consultancy input invaluable in achieving workable solutions.

I am a member of the BACP, EMDR UK Association and UK Psychological Trauma Society.

Andrea Whittaker-Ward

Adv Dip Counsellor MBACP Accredited

Adv/Diploma MBACP Accredited Counsellor, Clinical Supervisor and Trainer

My career and experience over the past 28 years has been working in safeguarding with children, young people and their families. A large proportion of that was working with Adolescents who presented with a huge amount of risk which at times was life threatening. I am comfortable working in this arena and supporting parents in managing their Children’s behaviour.

This is where my strength of building positive professional relationships, and having “uncomfortable conversations” derives from.

I work as an Integrative Counsellor which means I assess all the information given to me and decide the best approach with my Clients. For example, panic/anxiety and depression I would draw on my Cognitive Behavioural skill set to support my Clients.

I have worked extensively with adults with a wide range of issues; therefore I feel it is important to tailor my approach to the individual needs.

I have been a practising Counsellor for the last 20 years working with individuals, couples and families including referrals from organisations ie occupational health teams, EAPs, insurance, Solicitors, and recommendation from previous Clients.

I am currently working in Primary schools offering mental health and wellbeing sessions to staff, this also includes one to one sessions to promote positive wellbeing. This is something that really benefits the staff team and supports them in the workplace.

More recently my role here has included debrief group sessions when a staff team have experienced the bereavement of some children in their school.

I have had a wide range of training including couples counselling, CBT, solution focused and Gestalt approaches, stress management, abuse and safeguarding. I have vast experience of working with work related stress, depression, anxiety and panic, anger, relationships, domestic and sexual abuse. I have also worked with, and continue to work with trauma arising from abuse.

I also work with clients who have trauma sustained from accidents.

As well as face-to-face sessions I offer online counselling.

In addition, I am a qualified clinical supervisor of both students in training and qualified counsellors and offer supervision both face to face and by online.

I am an experienced trainer who offers services to organisations in the education and care sectors, along with local authorities.

Ethical Code of Practice

We work in a client centred and holistic approach with individuals and couples, irrespective of religious belief, sexual orientation or race.  We adhere to the BACP ethical code of practice.

What We Can Offer

We offer a safe and compassionate place to explore and work through difficulties to help people look at life challenges from a different perspective. Time and space to be heard and reflect is essential for us to maintain good emotional and physical health. Different therapy models are offered depending on what works best for each person.

Who We Have Helped

“I couldn’t even sit in the passenger seat of the car for months without shaking after the accident. My insurer referred me to Rachel and after just a few sessions the panic feelings started to reduce. I’m not yet driving as confidently as I was but I can drive and sit in a car again which I never thought would happen.”

Past Patient

“I didn’t know what to expect from counselling – it was all a bit of a mystery. Over time I started to feel I could trust Rachel and she has helped me understand that by avoiding things my world has got smaller and my anxiety has got bigger. Although it’s been hard and painful at times, my world is slowly getting a bit bigger again and I am starting to live.”

Past Patient

“Life was getting on top of me and as a man I found it hard to open up to someone. I thought it was something I should sort out for myself. Having space and time for me was invaluable. I came up with my own solutions and it didn’t take as long as I thought. I was referred by work and in 6 sessions I was back on the path again.”
